Imjingak Peace Park in Paju.
One of the most visited places by foreigners in Korea is the Imjingak Peace Park in Paju.For Koreans, it is not only a symbol of war, but also a symbol of peace wishing for future reunification.
It is also a place for displaced North Koreans and North Korean defectors who have left their hometowns in the North to visit each year during the Lunar New Year's and Chuseok.

I listen to the current young Koreans about the Korean War and the war from childhood, but they already have an unrealistic feeling that they are deeply pinned in the chest as it is the past. I belong to one of those generations, but the feeling of war going to Paju Imjingak Peace Park will be different. It will come to feel that what was in our history is what actually happened.
Paju is a short running distance from Seoul. There is no admission fee, if you have a car, you can pay a parking fee of 2,000 won.

If you go to Imjingak in Paju, it is a little strange that there are nearby lawns and playgrounds.
Because I think the Paju Imjingak, which we imagine, is a place of heavy feeling that keeps the scars of war intact.
Paju Imjingak was made into a Peace Park. Peace park symbolizes the pain of division, but it is also a place to pray for peace so there are amusement parks for children, but traces of war coexist with the various symbols wishing for peace in the surrounding area.

If you arrive at the Peace Park in Imjingak, Paju by public transportation, a monument to the Korean War has been erected since you entered the park. And there is also a monument to the N-shaped model that represents the UN army.
If you keep going inside, you will also find the statue of then U.S. President Hertruman. Looking around the surroundings, the place where meaningful symbols are together is Peace Park in Imjingak.

경기도 가볼만한 곳2 - 파주 임진각 평화공원
dmz를 설명하는 말은 세계유일의 장소이자 우리나라가 단 하나뿐인 분단국가라는 말일 것이다. 경기도 가볼만한 곳 2번째 여행으로 파주 임진각 평화공원에 대해 이야기해보려고 한다.세계에서 유일한 분단국가, 세계유일의 장소 dmz.
비무장지대라고 알려진 dmz는 전세계에서 유일한 분단의 현실을 보여주는 장소이다. 우리나라 사람이면서도 특별히 신경쓰지 않으면 가보지 않게 되는 곳. 하지만 외국관광객들이 우리나라에서 많이 찾는곳중 한 곳이 dmz투어라고 하는데 임진각 평화공원에 가면 dmz투어 티켓을 구매할 수 있다.
한국관광에서 외국인들이 많이 찾는 곳 중 한 곳이 파주 임진각 평화공원이다. 이 곳은 전쟁의 상징뿐만 아니라 미래의 통일을 기원하는 평화의 상징이기도 하다. 또한 북에 고향을 두고온 실향민, 탈북인들에게는 매년 설과 추석에 찾아가 고향을 기념하는 장소이기도 하다.
나에게 6.25전쟁이란 어릴때부터 전쟁에 관해 듣고 배우지만 이미 지난 일이라 가슴깊이 와닿지 않는 비현실적인 느낌을 주는 말이다. 그러나 파주 임진각 평화공원엘 가면 전쟁에 대한 느낌이 달라진다.
우리 역사속에 있었던 일이 실제로 일어났던 일이라는 것을 실감하게 되기 때문이다. tv에서 매년 실향민들이 북쪽을 향해 차례를 지내는 것을 보는것과는 차원이 다르른 현실감을 느끼게 되는 곳이 파주 임진각 평화공원이다.
파주는 서울에서 자유로를 달려 한 시간정도면 도착하는 가까운 경기도 가볼만한 곳이다. 임진각 평화공원은 입장료는 따로 없고 자동차를 이용할 경우 주차비 2,000원을 내면 된다.
막상 파주 임진각을 가보면 주변의 잔디밭과 놀이터가 함께 있는것이 조금은 낯설다. 우리가 상상하는 파주 임진각은 전쟁의 상흔을 고스란히 간직한 무거운느낌의 장소일 것이라고 생각하기 때문이다.
그러나 파주 임진각은 평화공원으로 조성되었다. 평화공원은 분단의 아픔을 상징하기도 하지만 평화를 기원하는 장소이기도 하다. 그래서 아이들을 위한 놀이공원도 있고, 주변으로는 평화를 기원하는 여러가지 상징물과 함께 전쟁의 흔적도 함께 공존하는 곳이다. 또 이곳은 다양한 문화행사가 펼쳐지는 장소이기도 하다.
대중교통을 이용해 파주 임진각 평화공원에 도착한다면 들어가기전부터 6.25참전 기념비가 세워져 있고, UN군을 상징하는 N자 모형의 기념조형물도 있다. 안쪽으로 들어가면 6.25 당시 미국대통령 해리트루먼 동상도 있다. 주변 곳곳을 둘러보면 의미있는 상징물들이 함께 하는 곳이 파주 임진각 평화공원이다.
임진강 누각으로 알려진 전망대는 망원경이 설치되어 있다. 500원 동전을 넣으면 날씨가 좋은 날은 멀리 북한땅인 개성이 보인다고 한다.
나는 아직까지 한 번도 개성을 제대로 보지 못했다. 언젠가 날씨 좋은날에 방문해 개성거리를 보고 싶다.
파주 임진각에는 1953년 전쟁포로 교환을 했던 자유의 다리를 볼 수있다. 이때 교환한 포로의 수는 국군과 un군을 포함해 12,773명이었다고 한다.
내가 이곳에서 가장 강렬하게 느낀 풍경은 전쟁통에 버려진 증기기관차, 그리고 개성까지의 거리를 알려주는 팻말, 그리고 실향민들의 리본이다.
파주에서 개성은 22km밖에 되지 않는다. 서울보다 두배 이상 가까운 거리이다. 이곳에서는 북한이 정말 가까운 곳에 있구나 하고 느끼게 된다.
옆에 서 있는 증기기관차는 더 이상 북쪽을 향해 달리지 못해 힘없이 녹슬어 버렸다. 마치 마음은 아직 북쪽을 향해 언젠간 만날거야 라는 실향민들의 마음처럼.
마지막으로 실향민과 탈북인들의 리본을 보면 얼마나 많은 사람들이 가족과 고향을 그리워하는지 절절하게 다가온다.
태극기에 쓰여진 문구를 보면 그들의 마음이 내게도 다가와 저절로 눈시울이 붉어지는곳. 그곳이 파주 임진각 평화공원이다.
